Job Summary

The Systems Engineer II role ensures the stability, integrity, availability, and efficient operation of the information systems that support deployed Azure Virtual Desktops and Citrix XenDesktop/ZenApp functions.

To be successful, the Systems Engineer II will need to apply the sophisticated technical knowledge required to build, configure, deploy, and support AMN's Virtual Desktop/App infrastructure, including operating systems, enterprise Citrix and Azure VDI Services, Netscaler load balancers/secure application gateways, Active Directory services, backup solutions, Nutanix virtualization, VMware virtualization, web servers, and other enterprise system level applications.

The position requires the application of sophisticated judgment and analysis in the evaluation, selection, installation, and maintenance of systems software and hardware. Success in the role dictates ongoing improvement of processes and applying standard methodologies to the environment. Support is generally for large-scale systems with high criticality to the business.  The ideal candidate will want to be challenged with new technology and have a detailed understanding of virtualization, VDI technologies, and the vision to build an improved server infrastructure. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, and maintain a computing environment sufficient to support current and future organizational needs for published applications and desktops/workstations VDI.
  • Collaborate with business, IT associates, and outside vendors to ensure smooth and reliable operation of software and systems required to fulfill business objectives and processes.
  • Monitor and evaluate operating efficiency, server performance, bandwidth usage, and error logs to identify and accurately correct problems as they arise.
  • Analyze VDI platforms and systems to identify problem areas accurately while maintaining records, inventories, and user documentation.
  • Based on performance analysis and tuning, assist in capacity planning for the infrastructure according to industry-accepted standard processes.
  • Establish and maintain VDI architecture standard methodologies, including procedures, guides, templates, and relevant documentation.
  • Follow established procedures required for efficient infrastructure management and define and enforce new standards when vital.
  • Designed, implemented, managed, and supported physical and virtual infrastructure hosting Citrix and Azure workloads.
  • Perform administration duties as required to support the VDI environment.
  • Evaluate, customize, update, and maintain operating systems and installed products, including installing and testing new releases.
  • Review, evaluate, and recommend new or upgraded cloud computing platforms, systems software packages, and related hardware based on established and emerging standards.
  • Participate in a geographically dispersed 24 x 7 support organization.
  • Maintain awareness of new developments in software and server technologies.
  • Develop and automate processes to expedite and streamline workloads.
  • Advanced solving of production issues as needed, including producing root cause analysis reports when required.
  • Work harmoniously with department heads and other IT department members to address requests and resolve complaints and issues on a service-oriented, timely basis.
  • Design and implement system backup procedures, real-time replication, and other recovery processes per the company’s disaster recovery and business continuity strategies.
  • Create and maintain system user documentation.
  • Maintain records to ensure that software licensing complies.
  • Provide technical support to staff in a courteous manner.
  • Perform other duties as the need arises or requested.


  • IT-related degree, Associate or Bachelor's program, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.


  • Minimum three years of Engineering experience in VDI technologies


  • Azure Virtual Desktop Certification | Preferred
  • Citrix Certified Professional | Preferred
  • Microsoft Certified Solution Associate | Microsoft Corporation (MSFT) | Preferred
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) | Microsoft Corporation (MSFT) | Preferred

Pay Rate: $116,000 - $138,000 Salary

Final pay rate is dependent on experience, training, education, and location.
